The Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship is pleased to invite interested organizations to participate in Social Entrepreneur of the Year Competition. The Foundation provides unparalleled platforms at the regional and global level to highlight and advance leading models of sustainable social innovation. The purpose of this competition is to recognize outstanding social entrepreneurs around the globe and also get connected with corporate, political, academic, media and other leaders.

Benefits-
◾Selected winners will be included in the Schwab Foundation network of social entrepreneurs. This includes access to a peer network of social entrepreneurs, special benefits such as pro-bono consulting services and scholarships to executive education courses at world-class institutions such as Harvard Business School, Stanford University and INSEAD.
◾The winners will be invited to the regional meetings of the World Economic Forum which are relevant to their work. They are highlighted as leading social entrepreneurs in a plenary session with heads of state and/or corporate leaders. Excellent finalists or winners under 40 will also be nominated to the Young Global Leaders network of the World Economic Forum.

The Swiss Forum for International Agricultural Research Award 2013 – Call for Applications

The Swiss Forum for International Agricultural Research (SFIAR) is inviting applications for annual Award for scientists working for a Swiss institution in agricultural research for development. The purpose of this award is to support relevant agricultural research for development (ARD) and to promote knowledge on and visibility of Swiss ARD.

Objectives-
◾Sharing information between ARD stakeholders in Switzerland
◾Promoting the visibility of Swiss ARD
◾Playing an advocacy role at policy level
◾Serving as a national partner in international initiatives
◾Promoting collaboration between actors in Swiss ARD

The SFIAR intends to award new, innovative and result oriented research. Recent achievements or milestones can be awarded, however no future plans or project proposals.

Award-

The prize sum of the SFIAR Award is CHF 5’000 for a young researcher, PhD or Post Doc project and CHF 10’000 for a team
project. The Award is offered annually.

Eligibility & Criteria-
◾has been carried out at or in close collaboration with a Swiss institution involved in ARD
◾has appropriate linkages in developing countries
◾has been completed preferably no longer than three years ago

SEED Initiative has announced 2013 Awards which seeks innovative projects on gender equality and women’s empowerment. The project is supported by UN Women, European Union, the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety, the government of Flanders, the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), and the international law firm Hogan Lovells. This program mission is to to help the most promising start-up entrepreneurs, women-led enterprises and other social and environmental inspiring businesses to integrate ideas and proposals to address pressing local issues.

  • Innovative and entrepreneurs from emerging economies, developing and least developed countries can send their applications to win a tailor-made support package to help expand their business

NGOs invited to apply for the International ReSource Award: $150,000 grant opportunity

NGOs, private, scientific or public institutions and similar bodies are invited to apply for Swiss Re’s 2014 International ReSource Award for Sustainable Watershed Management which provides grants of up to US $150,000 to projects in developing and trainsition countries.The award is a result of Swiss Re’s commitment to water protection projects in the face of a grave need for sustainable access to clean water supplies in developing and emerging countries.

The ReSource Award acknowledges initiatives which are dedicated to raising public awareness of the ecological, social and economic significance of water sources and watersheds in developing and emerging countries.

Prize money totalling US$150,000 will be allocated either in total to one project, or distributed across several projects.

Entries should aim to ensure that water will remain a readily available, clean resource in the future. Prize money is awarded strictly for project implementation activities.

The jury of the International ReSource Award for Sustainable Watershed Management comprises an independent, international panel of water experts from NGOs and governmental institutions, as well as knowledge managers from Swiss Re.

The award’s valuable contribution to watershed management is also supported by an international panel of patrons, who have kindly agreed to mobilise their worldwide networks to promote the award and its winning projects to as broad a range of interested parties as possible.

International Development Research Center is seeking applications for Small Grants for Innovative Research and Knowledge Sharing. This project aims to improve Canadians’ understanding of global development issues that affect Canada and Low and Middle Income Countries and increase the knowledge and skills to address them.

Thematic areas-
◾Agriculture and the Environment
◾Global Health Policy
◾Social and Economic Policy
◾Science and Innovation

This call offers two types of funding-
◾Support to research, knowledge-building, and knowledge-sharing projects. Budget requests under this category must be between $15,000 and $60,000.
◾Support to events and to small dissemination activities and products. Budget requests under this category must be between $1,000 and $15,000.

Eligibility & Criteria-
◾This call is open to Canadian organizations and individuals may not apply.
◾Applicant organizations are considered to be those that have legal corporate registration in Canada. IDRC enters into agreement with legal entities only. The requesting institution, therefore, must be incorporated in Canada and headquartered in Canada (NB: Supporting documents will be requested should the application be successful).
◾The online application system must be used and all relevant categories within the form must be completed and clearly written, with all required accompanying documents attached.
◾The time available for review and start-up (e.g., obtaining visas) must be reasonable.
◾The budget should be realistic, within CP-set limits, and include clear budget notes.
